About Brookside Cemetery
Our Story
The original plot of ground set apart for Brookside Cemetery contained only six acres and was largely taken up in a few years.
The Trustees saw the necessity of enlarging the grounds and purchased nineteen acres lying on the west side of Engle Street, opposite the original site, and extending westerly to the line of the Northern Railroad, and from the north line of the original Cemetery grounds South West across the ravine and brook to the grounds of the Englewood Hospital.
The Trustees of the Hospital, however, fearing that the close proximity of the Cemetery might have a depressing effect on the Hospital patients, began to discuss the possibility of securing a strip of land from the Cemetery Trustees. This resulted in the sale to the Hospital Trustees of a strip one hundred feet in width, running from Engle Street to the hospital.
Our 200-seat chapel, built in 1860, has recently undergone a complete restoration. The chapel is a warm and intimate setting for a funeral or memorial service. New to Brookside, the Columbarium has become a popular choice for urn burials as prices have become more favorable than traditional methods.
Brookside’s service counselors are available to answer any of your questions. Whether it is to provide a tour, discuss arrangements, or design a memorial service, our staff will make your experience as pleasant as possible.
